Eric Standley: 3D Laser Cut Paper Art, "stained glass"

Eric Standley is an artist and educator currently living and working in Virginia. In his incredible series of 3D laser cut paper art, Standley’s work is found at the intersection of art, technology, history and mathematics.

His vector drawings were initially inspired by the geometry in Gothic and Islamic architectural ornamentation. The pieces are painstakingly assembled from laser-cut paper, layered to create elaborate 3-D works of art. Often these works are created using well over 100 layers of paper and can take months of planning and drawing. The result is so intricately detailed that the pieces must be viewed from multiple perspectives to be fully appreciated.

I can’t stop watching this. Its incredible how everybody else in the car ducks down after President Kennedy is shot, except Jackie. She puts her arm around him and doesn’t even think to lower herself.

The Extraordinary Biro Pen Art of Enham Bosakah

Enham Lives and works in Ghana ( Africa )

As I grew older, I had to fulfill the dream within me which was producing art. I went to the University, studied art, got my degree and decided to have a feel of the reality on the field of practice before I plunged into a Masters of Fine Arts degree. I eventually got disappointed going in with so much energy and optimism but with no funds. But then, I had a pen and paper, a perfect media, I thought. That was how it all begun. And I am doing very well now.

There is no name for the style of drawing I do. There are a lot of lines and minute squares. I have not named my style as I will always change it, I didn’t want to keep to one confinement. It’s a freestyle.

I work in the evening, late in the night where I can draw without interruption. I can come back to a painting after a long time, unless I am commissioned to do a piece for a client. I do what I feel like doing at what time. But roughly, it takes about 3-4 days to make a piece.

Surreal Dreaming Statues by Ángela Lergo

Sculptor Ángela Lergo of Spain also specialises in set design, creating wonderfully lit works on the human body and how it relates to the environment, which she symbolises in a variety of materials and effects.

She designs both the statues and the area around them, drawing in emotional dreamlike atmospheres as the figures are captured in mid-interaction. The end result is something heartfelt, with scenes that are both surreal and beautiful.

Paintings by Ruben Pang

We are enjoying the paintings of Singaporean artist Ruben Pang this morning. Pan describes his paintings as “projections of his psyche, which reflect on notions of prospect, arrival, and transformation.” His process evolves and gradually builds up with each brushstroke and layering of paint.

Will Cotton

American painter William Cotton is an New York based painter, known for his surreal candy landscapes. His primary subjects are candy and naked women, often in combination. Will Cotton painted landscapes made out of pastries, melting ice cream, candy, and other tantalizing sweets on female models. He has a professional oven in his studio and makes all of these himself. Time-lapse photography of nude dancer’s by Shinichi Maruyama

Since the dawn of the photographic age artists have been obsessed with the ways in which a cameraman can play with the perception of motion and time. In the 19th century Eadweard Muybridge used photography to win a bet by capturing an image of a horse galloping in order to prove that all it’s legs left the ground at once, now Shinichi Maruyama is presenting the opposite.

Jordan Kasey’s Vibrantly-Colored Oil Paintings

Jordan Kasey, an artist based in Baltimore, creates large-scale oil paintings of alien landscapes and fantastical, surreal objects and lively characters. In her imagined world, the artist fuses nature and the man-made (specifically, the humanesque and the aquatic) by blurring the lines between these two disparate, yet closely related worlds. In some of her work, she unfamiliarizes the familiar by contouring faces, animals, and varying objects with sea plants and corals, amongst other natural occurring living objects.
